Bullet Points

Alsa’s Crazer bases are used to create amazing marbleized effects, and vivid marble-like patterns.

Also able to create an extremely wide variety of looks, by simply using different “texturing tools” and techniques, with common plastic wrap being the most popular, this paint can also be used to create a “brush stroke” look, or even a “snakeskin” or “wood grain” type of look. The resulting pattern is totally random, and no 2 applications are the same.

You can even use a Crazer paint over an existing Crazer paint, to create a multi-layered effect, with incredible depth.

  • Creates looks with incredible depth
  • Random patterns insure no 2 applications look quite the same
  • Specially formulated for “texturing”
  • Automotive grade urethane
  • High solids content
  • Advanced UV inhibitor protection
How To (Application Guide):

Crazer Paint is applied over an existing black base coat, and then “marbleized” using plastic wrap as a “texturing tool” to create the marbling effect. Standard plastic wrap, such as Saran Wrap, is all you need for this effect. You can also use any number of things to create a texture…Brushes, sponges….anything that will leave a pattern behind, in the wet Crazer paint. This is your time to experiment!

  1. Always apply paints in a well-ventilated area, and wear a NIOSH approved respirator to avoid breathing any fumes.
  2. Make sure you have good conditions for spraying. The best temperature for spraying this paint, is 75-80 degrees F, and VERY low humidity.
  3. Prepare and prime your part first. Epoxy primers are best for bare metal, and primer surfacers are best for plastics, fiberglass, or wood. Some plastics may require an adhesion promoter but most plastics, like ABS plastic, are fine without adhesion promoters. Our tech support department can assist with what primer is best, if you are uncertain.
  4. Before applying your primer, remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt, and chemical contaminants, by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable cleaning method.
  5. Rinse with fresh water and allow to completely dry.
  6. Remove any existing loose paint, or rust, etc, with a wire brush or sand paper.
  7. Lightly sand glossy surfaces to create a surface profile for adhesion.
  8. Apply your primer to the surface according to the manufacturers’ specifications for your particular primer.
  9. Let your primer cure according to the manufacturers specifications for your particular primer, and then lightly scuff that to create a surface profile for adhesion.
  10. Mix the black base coat that came in your kit (ASB-13) with the medium reducer that came in your kit (AMR-2712), at a ratio of 1:1.
  11. Apply 1-2 coats of your reduced black base coat over the primer, using steady even passes, and allowing about 15-20 minutes dry time between coats.
  12. Let your finished base coat dry for about 10-15 minutes, and now you are ready to apply your Crazer paint.
  13. Apply a full wet coat of the Crazer paint over your existing black base coat, and immediately wrap in plastic wrap. The more you wrinkle the plastic wrap, the more dramatic the effect will be. Removing the plastic wrap right away, after texturing, will allow the Crazer paint to flow back out a little bit, and give you softer edges to the pattern. Letting the Crazer dry completely (about 30-45 minutes) and then removing the plastic wrap, will give you very distinct sharp edges to the pattern.
  14. Other patterns: Crazer paint can also be “textured” using other items as well. Try using a brush, to create “Brush Strokes” or even a sponge to create a “Swiss Cheese, or Snakeskin type of look. This is only limited by your creativity. Anything that will produce a texture in the wet Crazer can be used. Experimentation is encouraged.
  15. Always try to “texture” your Crazer paint immediately after applying. If you allow the Crazer to start to dry, it will be less viscous, and will not texture as well.
  16. Once you have finished “texturing” your Crazer paint, let it dry for approximately 1-2 hours after removing the plastic wrap (or whichever technique you chose), and you are now ready to top coat the Crazer.
  17. Mix the Speed Clear (SC2130) that came in your kit, with the hardener included in your kit (H-222) at a ratio of 4:1.
  18. Apply the Speed Clear over the Color Force 3 paint, using very steady even passes. Apply 2-3 coats, with about 15-20 minutes dry time between each coat. Allow the final top coat to cure for 24 hours, and you can now buff the finished piece if needed.

FAQs

Q. Is this a paint that looks like marble when sprayed on?

Actually the “marble look” comes from texturing the surface after spraying the Crazer. Various effects can be achieved by using different items for texturing from cling wrap to brushes even a sponge.
